With an unmatched combination of superior clinical work and a deeply compassionate, therapeutically conscientious community, Grace & Emerge Recovery is the best trauma and mental health treatment program for young women in Austin and beyond. Supported by evidence-based outcomes, our work deeply touches the lives of the women in our care, giving them the confidence, tools, and hope they need to build an authentic life in mental health recovery.
Overall, young adults (ages 18 to 26) show the highest prevalence of mental health disorders of any group over age 18. Young women in particular are struggling: One study found that more than 1 in 4 young adult women meets the diagnostic criteria for a Common Mental Disorder like anxiety or depression — nearly three times the rates in young adult men. Post-pandemic, mental health indicators among young adult women have been worsening as our health systems struggle to meet the need: In 2022, a study found that more than half of responding counties met the criteria for a “mental health professionals shortage area.”
We provide some of the leading mental health and depression treatment Austin, TX has to offer.

More than 50% of young adults struggling with mental health disorders also have a substance use disorder, studies suggest. Those with one mental health diagnosis also often struggle with other mental and behavioral health issues as well. Dual-diagnosis mental health treatment encompasses the entire constellation of mental health disorders within a client, diagnosing and treating co-occurring issues at the same time. Because our clinicians are licensed for mental health and substance use disorders — and trained specifically in treating a women’s milieu — they can approach the development of each treatment plan with a comprehensive perspective. More than 80% of all childhood sexual assault victims are female. Still more young women may experience trauma in adolescence and early young adulthood: From the “big T” trauma of wars, accidents, and assaults to the “little t” trauma of grief and loss, these experiences leave deep scars.
Grace & Emerge was founded to give women a place to heal. Our all-female leadership team has a deep understanding of the clinical and emotional needs of young women, and our program was intentionally built to meet them. Every element of the Grace & Emerge experience was specifically crafted to enable deep healing.

Healing doesn’t just create a sense of safety; a sense of safety is vital in order to heal. Every element of the therapeutic community at Grace & Emerge was developed to keep the young women in our care safe — until they feel safe themselves. For example, that starts with keeping our location private to our guests, colleagues, and their approved contacts. It’s reflected in our thoughtful choice of decor items that reduce opportunities for self-harm. In our unique and vibrant community, the women in our care can exhale, knowing that they are physically safe and on the path to feeling safe within themselves.

Grace & Emerge is proud to have a relationship with Dr. Shiva Lam and Ela Born, Psychiatry NP, to provide concierge psychiatry services to our clients. These respected professionals reserve a time block once per week for the Grace & Emerge clients, and are our preference for psychiatric services to ensure continuity of care. However, clients are permitted to continue any relationships with existing doctors if desired. In such cases, we kindly ask for a release of information to be signed between both programs so we may speak with your psychiatry team as needed.
The Grace & Emerge Recovery program is divided into three phases: Restore, Refine, and Reclaim. Learn more about what mental health services are covered in each phase.
